Joel - Pittsburgh Pirates Batboy

September, 2011

This month the BuccoZone interviewed Joel who is one of the Pirate's Batboys. Joel can usually be seen in the Pirate Dugout, or sitting near the On-Deck Batting circle ready at a moment notice to do his job. Joel is currently attending Pitt University and works many hours with the Pirates during the summer months.

One might think that being a Batboy is an easy job, but it is actually alot of work, long hours, and having to put up with screaming fans that want Joel to throw them a baseball. So when you only have one ball to throw into the crowd and two hundred people that want it, you usually end up being a hero to one person and not so much of a hero to the other hundred and ninety-nine.

Here are a few photos of Joel at work. You can also watch a video interview we did with him on his way to work at PNC Park. Watch and you will learn that being a batboy is alot of work, but rewarding and fun! Thanks for the interview Joel!
